Getting Listed on Google.com |
Getting listed on Google is pretty easy these days. And fortunately for us - Google does things right. Google Analytics is a new and highly useful tool to help you see how your traffic is. Where is comes from, how much traffic, on what days, and how long they stayed among other things. |
It's a simple process to get signed up: Go to http://www.google.com/analytics/ and sign up for an account (free). When you sign up, you will follow through a process to load your site into it. As you are going through the process, Google will present you with a section of code that must be input into your pages. Copy that code and email it to me. I will then place the code in your site pages. After that, Google will index your site pages within 24 hours. |
After your site is indexed, you can login to your Google Analytics account anytime to see how your site is doing traffic wise. |
| A few notes about search engines. |
Today, there are really on 7 major search engines. These search engines generally provide search results to the rest of the search engines. There are a ton of useless search engines and FFA link sites out there and they do literally nothing for you traffic wise. I do not suggest using site submission software, it just doesn't work that way anymore. |
Getting listed on Google is the beginning. That does not mean that you will instantly get traffic from Google or any search engine. What it means is your site pages will be within the Google index. If someone goes to Google and Types in your domain name or your business name, your site will come up first. |
How do you get higher rankings? It's nearly impossible to get your site to the top listings in any search engine using the most common search terms and keywords. For instance, i you type in website developer - you will not find my site - LogicFlame.com at the top of any search engine. That's because there are 25 million sites out there with those keywords. But.... I do get a fair amount of search engine traffic. The way I do it is I think of as many keyword search phrases and I input them in the code of the site (I do the same thing for every site I build). These phrases can be page titles, image titles, meta tags, keywords, etc... The idea is to put text and code in your page that is similar to something someone would type in to a search engine. These phrases do not have to be common phrases. The search engines serve up results for billions of queries every day, someone - somewhere - will probably enter terms similar to what you have within your pages making it more likely that your site appears in the results. |
In a nutshell, the best way to get higher "rankings" in the search engines are two things - content and link backs. It does not matter how your page is coded ( for the most part) if you have 25,000 other sites linking to your site (link backs). The more link backs you have, the higher you will go. Content is extremely important as well. You content should be very specific to what you do and what you are promoting. If you have an updateable site, add as much text content about your subject as you can on as many pages as possible. This creates a larger "footprint" for your site and will improve your positioning. |
Post to forums sites, community sites, any site with a similar content to yours if possible. To help you get link backs, post info to as many sites as you can. Make sure you include a link back to your site pages. The posts will be indexed with the search engines along with the links, helping you with your rankings. |
| Good Luck! |
